First Love
A visceral but sweet thrill ride of crime, violence, and narcotics from Takashi Miike.
Fantastic Fest 2019 Official Selection
“It’s bizarre and very unwholesome. But weirdly inspired.” - Guardian
“Imagine if the David Ayer of STREET KINGS and END OF WATCH had shot the first half of a gangster movie, then thrown his megaphone to space-age Edgar Wright.” - Daily Telegraph
Legendary and prolific filmmaker Takashi Miike (AUDITION) delivers one of his most memorable, funny, and violent films in years with FIRST LOVE.
Leo (Masataka Kubota, 13 ASSASSINS) is a young boxer, successful but unable to show emotion. He goes into a fight he feels sure he will win, but instead, he gets knocked out by his opponent. This triggers a chain of unpleasant events involving drugs, corrupt cops, the Yakuza, a female assassin – and Monica, an escort he must rescue.
With his trademark visual flair and a surprising amount of humor, FIRST LOVE is a wildly entertaining piece of cinema from one of the form’s greatest craftsmen.
